5 minute protest against climate change, France lights out...

The protest planned for Feb 1st against climate change is starting to gain momentum, and a lot of criticism. In case you've not heard, this is an idea whereby people in France will shut off all power for five minutes on Feb 1st in order to draw attention to the enormous waste of power that occurs every day. For more information have a look at this Campaign against Climate Change website, here.

I'm not sure if this is aimed at people outside France or if it's just the French who are taking part. Any more information would be most welcome. I can't imagine it will make a huge physical difference but with enough people taking part the message should get across nicely. I read somewhere that all the power going off for a short period of time and then starting again will actually cause a greater use of power. Interesting point but I hope it's not true. Maybe a ten minute break will be better.

Do you remember when all the people in China (was ti China) threatened to jump up and down at the same time to cause an earthquake somewhere? Did that ever happen?

Not sure if they did it but the answer as to whether or not it would cause an earthquake is here http://tafkac.org/science/jumping_chinese.html. A billion Chinese jumping off chairs would make quite a photo op though.
